Bagnan College, one of the premier institutions of Higher Education in West Bengal, situated at Khalore Gram Panchayat, P.O.- Bagnan, P.S.- Bagnan, Dist.- Howrah, began its journey on the auspicious day of 16th July, 1958. Since inception, the College is affiliated to the University of Calcutta and included under Section 2(f) and 12(B) of the UGC Act, 1956. The college is quite close to the Bagnan railway station and is also well connected with the National Highway No. 6. Initially the college started with Arts Department Teaching Humanities as General Course. Further expansion of courses continued and different undergraduate honours courses were opened over time. The Department of Commerce was set up in 1966 in the Evening Shift, followed by the Department of Science in 1974 in the Day Shift. In 1995, the Morning Shift, exclusively for girl students, was opened, where Humanities General subjects are taught. The college was awarded "B Grade" by the NAAC in 1995. Preparations are on to do even better in the forthcoming second cycle of NAAC visit. The college has been consistently performing well in the University examinations, and after completing their undergraduate studies, our students are pursuing higher studies in different premier institutions of the world. Many of them are working in different organizations of National and International repute.
